Knowledge Test

  • Test 1: The Glass Universe, by Dava Sobel

  • Test 2: With the Heart in Mind by Mikaeel Ahmed Smith

  • Test 3: The Sealed Nectar by Safiur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

    • All material is testable through the chapter of "The First Phase: The Status Quo in Madinah at the Time of Emigration"

    Note: The books for Test 2 and Test 3 have been changed from regionals.

Debate topics

  1. Highways should not have speed limits.

  2. Further AI development and research should be banned.

  3. State-funded news organizations are preferable to privately owned news organizations.

  4. The FDA should stop testing the efficacy of potentially life saving new drugs, and instead only test for safety.

  5. Political parties should be banned, and all candidates should be required to run as independents.

Regionals Competition Materials (WILL NOT BE USED IN NATIONALS)

Knowledge Test

  • Test 1: The Glass Universe, by Dava Sobel

  • Test 2: Centering Black Narrative: Black Muslim Nobles Among the Early Pious Muslims, by Ahmad Mubarak and Dawud Walid

    • The initial book for this test has been switched to the one above due to unsuitable themes and contents.

  • Test 3: When Baghdad Ruled the Muslim World, by Hugh Kennedy

    • Poetry passages will not be tested on.

    • Misinformation regarding the faith of Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib has been included in the book and as such he will not be tested on.

Debate topics

  1. The public school curriculum should be condensed so that students graduate highschool significantly earlier

  2. Social media has caused more harm than good

  3. Toronto Specific: The Notwithstanding Clause should be reformed rather than abolished

  4. United States Specific: The Filibuster should be reformed rather than abolished

  5. Debate is an effective means of reaching the best conclusion

  6. The Police should be replaced by a collection of unarmed community support organizations
