MIST Board of Trustees Search
Background
The MIST Board of Trustees is the international governing body of MIST. It is responsible for upholding MIST's mission, vision, and values by monitoring and strengthening programming. It grows and develops the organization, sets the long-term strategy of MIST, and ensures adherence to applicable legal, accounting, and ethical standards.
The Board will be representative of as many different perspectives as possible, including representation across different regions, diversity in cultural backgrounds, age groups, gender, etc, and a variety of skill sets that will be beneficial to the organization.
The Board is in its building stages, and currently has two members. One to four members will be onboarded per year in the next three years so that the Board will have seven members by the end of 2023. The new trustees serve either two or six year terms, which may renew at the end of each term.
The expected time commitment is five hours per week, on average. Trustees who are elected as officers (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary) would be expected to commit about ten hours per week. Hours would vary by time of year.
Qualifications
All Trustees should have the following qualifications:
excellent communication skills, particularly in a virtual environment
ability to build relationships with different stakeholders, within and without of MIST
at least a basic understanding of MIST’s vision, with some MIST experience in some capacity (as a volunteer, coach, judge, participant, etc)
ability to think strategically and long-term
Each Trustee shall be required to, at least:
attend scheduled quarterly meetings (virtually or in-person)
attend at least one MIST tournament per year
raise at least US$1000 per year and $10,000 over a six-year term
Trustees should collectively hold a variety of skill sets which will contribute to MIST’s development. Each Trustee should provide at least one of the skills below, or some other beneficial skill set.

Board Responsibilities
Govern the affairs of the organization.
Uphold the organization’s mission, vision, and values by monitoring and strengthening programs and services.
Act as the final arbiter of any disputes within the organization and interpreter of the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws.
Ensure effective planning by writing strategic plans and reviewing operational plans, including geographical growth.
Ensure adherence to all applicable legal and ethical standards.
Maintain the health of the organization by electing Trustees and Officers and by selecting, supporting, and evaluating the Executive Director.
The Board may review all contracts and standard operating procedures of the organization and shall approve an annual budget.
Application Process
Applicants must abide by all deadlines listed or set, or he/she will no longer be considered for the Board. All deadlines are at 11:59PM EST on the day specified. The application process will include soliciting feedback about candidates from all current MIST National Directors and Regional Directors, and may include background checks.
Applications (link above) will be accepted until March 7, 2020. Recommendations to the Board for potential applicants will be accepted until March 2, 2020. Recommended individuals will be informed of the application process via email by March 3, 2020.
Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a video interview by March 18, 2020. The Board will vote on its final decision at its meeting on March 22, 2020.
