In Solidarity

Assalamu alaikum (peace be upon you),

The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament always strives to empower a new generation of leaders, activists, and community members. Now (as always, and more than ever) must we all stand with our Black brothers and sisters in the MIST family and around the world in the face of oppression and injustice.

On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (ﷺ) is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord (may He be glorified) is that He said: “O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.”

We look to the leadership of our friends at MuslimARC (and the numerous activist organizations led by the Black community) on strategies to address racism and racist biases in our communities, including our own MIST family, and how to best support our Black brothers and sisters. Please refer to their pages and websites as they continue to share literature and action items for community members and allies. For those among us who are not of the Black community, we implore introspection and to ponder over the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), particularly his stances and approaches towards injustice.

“By Allah, he does not believe – thrice – the one whose neighbor is not secure from his harm,” (Bukhari).

As this is a trying time for many in our community, MIST, and our friends at Naseeha, have professionals available for mental health services as needed. We ask that Allah bring our community unity and healing, and that He grant justice, strength, and patience for our Black brothers and sisters.

In Solidarity,
The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament
