Attention All Competitors!

Deadlines for early submissions are coming up! Please remember that submitting something early does not take the place of bringing a copy of your work into the tournament. This rule applies to all competitions! And remember, there *is* a 10 point deduction for pieces that are not submitted on time. Please remember that all work should be submitted with ONLY your MIST ID or Team ID.

Submissions are due March 23rd!

  • Graphic Design
  • Poetry
  • Prepared Essay
  • Short Fiction
  • Short Film
  • How do I submit Short Film?  MIST-New York asks that each team make a YouTube account and upload their short film as a PRIVATE video. Once the film has been uploaded, please send the link to mist.competitions@gmail.com. Please also bring a DVD copy to the Tournament.

ALSO- please make sure you have the LATEST copy of the Rulebook. The rulebook is available at http://www.getmistified.com/. There are a list of changes at the top of the page that denote things that have been added.

Lastly, one of the New York competitors noticed an error in the MIST Tafseer Packet. The error has been amended and as a result there are some changes on pages 2 & 14. Please redownload the Tafseer Packet if you are competing and make sure that you study from the edited version!

MIST Spirit Week!

We are a little over a month away from the 2012 MIST NY tournament! The organizers are working really hard to ensure an amazing experience for you and your team. Now because we want you and your team to be HYPED, we have something for you guys to do in the upcoming school week:

MIST SPIRIT WEEK!

  • Where?
    At your own school!
  • What to do?
Be spirited! Do something that promotes MIST and shows your team spirit.
Have your team registrar, leader or a volunteer write a recap post (3 sentences minimum) on the MIST NY Facebook Fan-page.
Create a 1-2min promotional video that showcases all that you and your teams did for Spirit Week.
  • When?
February 27th-March 2nd (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) is Spirit Week; March 9th is the deadline for the Promotional Video submission.

What are the rules?

1. Host a different team activity for each day that falls under the following categories (Note: you do not have to do all three. You can repeat a category as long as the activity itself is different):

  • Community service for your school (e.g. help clean the hallways, wipe classroom’s black/white board, etc).
  • MIST preparations (e.g. working on competitions, helping with registration, etc).
  • Team activities (e.g. chill days, Halaqah sessions, etc).

2. Write a recap post–by the team registrar, leader, or a volunteer–on the Facebook fan-page (http://www.facebook.com/MISTNY). The post can be casual, but must abide by the following:

  • No profanity, vulgar, or insults directed to anyone or any group (which includes other teams).
  • No internet/text lingo or slang (s0 plZ tri N0t 2 spk tlk lyk dis).
  • At least 3 sentences (not an essay!)

3. Create a Promotional Video of your team’s Spirit Week and submit it by March 9th, the week after Spirit Week. This video is to show what you and your team did for Spirit Week, so don’t forget your video camera/recorder/camcorder/etc. at your events! The submission will be done through Dropbox (further details will be given as March 9th approaches). The video should be 1-2 minutes long, and must abide by the following:

  • No profanity, vulgar, or insults directed to anyone or any group (which includes other teams).
  • No instrumental music (the duff or a one-sided drum is an exception).
  • no profanity, vulgar, or insults to any individual or group.
  • Sisters cannot sing, cheer, or dance.
  • Maintain appropriate gender relations.
  • Has to be 1-2 minutes (no more) long.

*All videos that abide by the rules will be posted on the Facebook fan-page after the deadline.

Please keep in mind that this does not count for points, competitions, etc. We want competitors to not just compete in the tournament, but to also make the best out of their time in their team and their MIST experience. Whether your team is registered or has yet to register, we highly welcome you to participate in Spirit Week!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Muhtasham Sifaat, Marketing Chair, at msifaat099 [at] gmail.com.

Once again, this is going to be an amazing year and an unforgettable tournament in the spring, God willing. May God grant us success in our works, bless us with a spectacular tournament, and have mercy upon us. Ameen.

And NOW for some more EXCITING NEWS….

We have some very EXCITING news for competitors with a penchant for baking and decorating. MIST-New York is piloting a BRAND-NEW competition for this year’s tournament, Culinary Arts! It will be a competition under the “Arts” category and for this year’s tournament, will consist of competitors making (and taking a picture of) their cupcake creations and bringing them to the tournament to be judged on taste, decoration and creative application of the theme to the work of culinary perfection :)
This competition consists of Culinary Arts submissions, a printed Written Statement, and an interview portion conducted by the judges’ panel.Culinary Arts is an individual competition. No more than two (2) students from each team can register for Culinary Arts.  This competition is not a team effort, and as such, students from the same team will compete individually.
This Competition is BRAND NEW and only being piloted by two regions- so the official rules are NOT in the Rulebook. We’ve attached the rules and the ballot for the competition on this website. If there are any lingering questions or concerns, please e-mail us at mist.competitions@gmail.com.

We’re looking forward to seeing your culinary and artistic skills in this NEW competition!
* IMPORTANT: This is a New York-Specific competition. Students who register for this competition should be aware that this is not a Nationals competition, and as such, winners do NOT advance to MIST Nationals. However, points from participating and winning the competition will apply to MIST-New York’s tournament).
