Statement Regarding COVID-19 and MIST

Assalamu alaikum (peace be upon you),

MIST season is upon us, and everyone is incredibly excited! The regional tournament teams have been working long and hard to bring the best possible experience MIST can provide to its attendees. MIST strives to bring excellence in providing a safe, fun environment to everyone in the MIST family. With that in mind, it is also in MIST’s mission to ensure the safety, well-being, and health of its attendees. The recent Coronavirus (COVID-19) concern has grown to the point that MIST activities across North America may be affected. Please keep the following in mind in preparation for MIST:

  • Anyone who has been sick within 14 days of the tournament is encouraged to stay home

  • If a team’s school has been closed due to concerns of the virus, that team is recommended not to attend MIST

  • If the tournament venue is closed, the organizing team for that tournament will seek rescheduling options

  • When attending the tournament, if any attendees experience symptoms, they will be recommended to seek medical attention and advised to go home for the remainder of the tournament

  • All attendees are forbidden from any physical contact (including handshakes, hugs, high fives, etc.), regardless of the gender of either party

  • MIST maintains a No Refund policy for unplanned absences and “No Shows” — please communicate ahead of time with your regional tournament team to discuss your options

Events that bring together large numbers of people unfortunately increase the risk of diseases (like the Coronavirus) spreading. MIST takes these concerns incredibly seriously, and will continue monitoring the situation for future updates in guidelines. We pray that everyone remains healthy and away from harm, and that this concern is removed quickly.

Please feel free to contact your local organizing team with any questions.

Regards,
The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament
