Nationals FAQ

InshaAllah more detailed information about the cost, registration, and logistics of MIST Nationals within the week.  Here are some FAQs in the meantime:

WHERE/WHEN IS NATIONALS?  Nationals will be held at the downtown campus of the University of Toronto, from July 6th to July 8th.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE AT NATIONALS?  Anyone who placed first to fifth in any competition may compete at Nationals.  The full list of students is below.  You may ONLY compete in competitions you placed in.

BASKETBALL:  MIST Detroit will be sending ONE team per gender to Nationals.  This means that the top ten individuals who competed in basketball at MIST Detroit will be selected to play for a unified Detroit team.  ONLY students who properly registered to compete in MIST Detroit’s basketball competition may compete at Nationals.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?  We are currently estimating costs at $300 per student.  This includes the National registration fee, bus costs, and hotel costs.  Unfortunately, financial aid is available only for the National registration fee.  The more Detroiters who attend, the cheaper it will be.

DO I HAVE TO STAY/TRAVEL WITH MIST DETROIT?  If you have family in Toronto, you are more than welcome to stay with them in Toronto, or to travel separately from the Detroit bus.  In that case, you will only have to pay the National registration fee.

HOW DO I REGISTER?  We will be using the same exact website (www.adderpit.com/MIST) for registration.  Since you already have an account, simply log in and join your team again for the MIST Nationals tournament.  Registration will begin within 2 weeks.

WHO WILL BE CHAPERONING US?  Hopefully, your coach from MIST Detroit Regionals will be willing and able to attend Nationals.  If not, MIST Staff will arrange a coach for your team.

WHAT ABOUT PARENTS?  Parents are welcome to come along with us to Nationals.  They may act as coaches for the entire team (reducing or eliminating the registration fee) or as a team guest.  Please keep in mind that if a separate hotel room is requested for a parent(s)/child, the additional cost will be passed along to your family.

CROSSING THE BORDER:  Nationals will be held internationally for the first time this year – this presents some new complications due to the border crossing.  You will be required to present both your passport AND birth certificate at the border.  If you are NOT a US citizen, there will be additional requirements forthcoming.

Competitors Eligible to compete in MIST Nationals

Any competitor who placed first to fifth in any competition is eligible to compete at MIST Nationals it that competition(s).  Culinary Arts will not be a competition at the national level.

For group competitions and basketball:  only competitors who registered online for that competition may compete at Nationals.  More information on MIST Nationals will be coming soon.

We apologize for any errors in announcing the awards at MIST.  These are the final ranks.  For questions, please email detroit@getmistified.com.

Congratulations to all our winners!
